The Boston Red Sox tied their 80-year-old franchise record with a 15th straight Major League Baseball win on Wednesday, a 6-3 victory over the Baltimore Orioles.

The Red Sox had a chance to break their record-winning streak, set in 1946, when they faced the Orioles in the second game of a double-header later Wednesday.

In the early game postponed from Tuesday night because of rain, the Red Sox got to work quickly, taking a 4-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run single by Caleb Durbin and a two-run triple by Jarren Duran.

Durran delivered a sacrifice fly for a run in the third and Ceddanne Rafaela belted his ninth home run of the season with two outs in the fourth.

The Red Sox have not lost since falling 10-2 at home to Washington on July 1.

Since then, Boston had gone 3-0 against the Los Angeles Angels, Chicago White Sox and New York Mets and 4-0 against Tampa Bay before edging Baltimore 6-5 on Monday in the opening game of their series.

The MLB-record longest winning streak is 26 games by the then-New York Giants in 1916.

The longest winning streak in American League history was 22 games by Cleveland in 2017.
